Where the Time Goes
1946 Packard picture 1946 Packard: Time Spent by Category

In general, the chart shows the time spent to disassemble, clean, repair and rebuild, and then assemble the feature car. To make the chart complete, the hours for items that were subcontracted are included and have blue labels.

Of significant interest is the fact that running errands took nearly four 40-hour weeks. Examples of running errands are:

  • Taking the frame to be powder coated. This might include going to the rental shop to pick up a car trailer
  • Driving to the hardware store to pick up cotter pins
  • Driving to the parts store to pick up brake fluid

The final total for the complete restoration was about 1300 hours.
